Effect of larch wood extractive leaching on accelerated weathering aging durability of oil-based coatings

Abstract Wood is a natural material and subject to degradation due weather, UV radiation, humidity. composed of many components. The basic structural elements wood include cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin. Furthermore, these are accompanying substances, which also extractive substances. Specifically, together with lignin, have negative effect on its life thanks their chemical reactions, initiated mainly by radiation (so-called photodegradation). This study evaluates the controlled extractives lignin surface before application coating system overall service life. Samples larch ( Larix decidua Mill.) were exposed exterior influences in Prague (Czech Republic) according EN 927–3 (2020) for 10 20 weeks. Subsequently, samples sterilized an autoclave, possible contamination fungi. specimens then treated two oil–coating systems (V–420 V–429). they artificial aging chamber 927–6 (2019). Testing occurred at predetermined time intervals 0, 1, 3, 6 weeks, roughly corresponding 2, 6, 12 months outdoors. evaluated factors change color, gloss, wettability. results showed slightly positive washout lasting ten weeks applying system.
